About this policy
Tally is developed by Asher Bloom. This policy explains how the Tally app and its support pages handle information, including files you create, reminders you enable, and messages you send for support.
Tally does not send your financial files or app usage to Asher Bloom. The app includes no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics.
Your files
Tally stores the information you enter in .tally files. A file can contain income and expense names, amounts, categories, dates, repeat schedules, website addresses, and reminder preferences.
Files are stored in the location you choose. Tally uses the Tally folder in iCloud Drive as its default location when iCloud Drive is available. Files saved there are handled by Apple’s iCloud services under your Apple Account and iCloud settings. If you choose another file provider, that provider’s terms and privacy practices apply.
Asher Bloom does not operate a server that receives your Tally files or have access to your iCloud Drive through Tally. Apple’s services are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Reminders on your device
When you enable a reminder and save it, Tally requests notification permission and asks the operating system to schedule local notifications. Tally keeps a local copy of information for income and expenses with reminders enabled so those reminders can be maintained after you close the file. This includes names, amounts, schedules, website addresses, and sound preferences.
Notification content may include a name, amount, and payment date. Your device’s notification, preview, sound, and Focus settings determine how that information appears, including on the Lock Screen. A reminder’s website action opens the address you supplied.
The reminder cache and pending notifications belong to each device. They are not sent to Asher Bloom. Reminder preferences stored in a file travel with that file; notification permission is controlled separately on each device.
Your choices and deletion
You can edit or remove income and expenses in Tally, move your files to another location, and delete files through Finder or Files. Copies in Trash, Recently Deleted, backups, or another storage service are governed by the settings and retention rules of those services.
To remove a saved reminder from a device, turn off Remind me in Tally and save the change on that device. Do this before deleting a file. Deleting a file while it is closed does not currently clear Tally’s saved reminder information or pending notifications. If you have already removed the file, you can turn off Tally notifications in your device’s Settings and contact support for help.
You can change notification permission at any time in System Settings on Mac or Settings on iPhone and iPad.
Websites you open
Adding a website address stores it in your file. When you choose to open it, Tally hands the address to your device’s website-opening service. The destination website or associated app may receive ordinary connection information and apply its own privacy policy. Tally does not send your other income or expense details with the address.
Support messages
If you email asherbloom@nyu.edu, Asher Bloom receives your email address and the message or attachments you choose to send. This information is used to respond to your request and follow up on the issue. Please remove financial details from screenshots and avoid sending a Tally file unless it is necessary for your request.
You can ask for deletion of support correspondence by emailing the same address. Support messages are handled through the email service used for that address and are kept as needed to respond to and resolve your request.
Apple services
Apple separately handles App Store distribution, iCloud storage, and any diagnostics you choose to share through your device’s settings. Apple may provide developers with App Store statistics and shared diagnostic reports. These services follow Apple’s privacy practices and your Apple settings.
These support pages
Tally does not add advertising, analytics software, or contact forms to these pages. The hosting platform and its security services use their own cookies and scripts to deliver and protect the site. They may process technical information such as your IP address, browser details, and the pages you request. Email and external links connect you to the service you choose to open.
Updates and contact
